Caring for Your ArtWork
Caring for your Art
It is important to carefully care for and handle original works of art.
Artwork Care
Original artwork on paper will be shipped flat. The artwork will be in a protective flat shipping envelope or box. Inside of that the artwork will usually be in a clear plastic protective sleeve with white mat board holding it in place. This is to keep the piece sturdy and protected until you are ready to frame it. I recommend leaving the artwork in the clear sleeve until you are ready to frame it.
If the piece is framed, special care will be taken upon shipping the work to you.
On Handling Art
If you plan on handling the artwork, especially if it is not framed, please make sure to wash and dry your hands thoroughly. Oils and dirt from your hands can smudge or ruin the work.
On Framing
Professional framers are experienced in framing artwork. I recommend taking your art to them. If you live in New Orleans, please contact me, and I can give you some great local recommendations for framers.
If you plan to frame the piece yourself, make sure to select acid free, archival matting and frames suitable for original art. I recommend using a UV protected glass or plexiglass. Always use matting and/or a box style frame to ensure that the art does not touch the glass or plexi surface for this could damage the art.
On Hanging
It is best not to hang original artwork in direct sunlight or in extreme exposures to heat, humidity, or cold. These factors in prolonged situations can damage artwork over time. Make sure you have chosen the correct hanging equipment for the job, and have someone to help you hang heavy or large works of art. You do not want to risk hurting yourself, damaging the art, or damaging your walls and or floors. Some art can be quite heavy (for example my shadowbox piece). Make sure the wall can support the piece. After the art is hung, enjoy!
I hope these recommendations help, and you enjoy your new piece of art.
